Blogger's Quilt Festival - Second Entry - Modern Fat Cross

For my second entry at the Blogger's Quilt Festival, I am entering my Modern Fat Cross Quilt into the Large Quilts Category

It's my first time participating in the Blogger's Quilt Festival and if it was easy to decide for my first entry, it wasn't that much for my second entry. So after some thought ...I decided on this one.

The fabric I used for the crosses are mostly from my favorite designers; Anna Maria Horner, Denyse Schmidt and Kaffe Fassett (spots and shot cotton). This fabric pull represents well my preferences for fabrics and colors.

If you are interested to see the progression of this quilt, you can read about it herehere and here.

I chose Deb's Feathers as for quilting design, my ultimate favorite at the moment. The quilting was done with a light variegated thread.

Blogger's Quilt Festival - First Entry - AMH Honeycomb Quilt

This is the first time I partake to The Blogger's Quilt Festival hosted at Amy's Creative Side. Everyone is welcome and you can participate as well.

For my first entry, I am entering my AMH Honeycomb quilt into The Hand Quilted Category. I really enjoyed making this quilt, it's one of my favorite for sure.

I just used a hexagon ruler and cut as many units as needed. Each hexagon was at first placed in a random way allowing myself to rearrange some units to avoid having the same print too close to one another until the arrangement looks good to me.

You can check earlier posts herehere and here to read and see the progress about this quilt.

Hand quilted with Valdani Pearl Cotton no.8 (Variegated in Black Night). It's such a beautiful thread to work with. Hand-dyed and colorfast, it comes in a wide range of luscious colors, both solid and variegated.

Little Quarter Log Cabin {Finish}

I get that feeling of accomplishment every time I finish a project
Seems familiar?

I was determined to finish this quilt today and it was done by noon. It's been washed and gently tumble dried before taking it outside for the usual photo shoot.

This quilt is made almost entirely from scraps...even the batting.

Using a walking foot, I stitched straight lines from edge to edge, to create this large checkerboard pattern.

When I look at it now, I can see something doesn't seem right...I think it would have look better with a diagonal stitching.

I used the same light pink fabric from the background for the binding and this time, I attached the binding by machine and finished with a zig-zag stitch.

Even If I managed to use mostly scraps, I had to get a piece of fabric for the backing.

This quilt was all about playing around with scraps and give machine quilting and machine binding a try.

I am not sure how I feel about quilting on a small machine, I am not sure machine quilting is for me after all...
I prefer by far hand quilting and all the other steps that go into making a quilt. That been said, I might try it again sometimes...just to be sure. :-)

On the road again...

Autumn has arrived like a thief ... at least that's what it seem to me ...
It's the end of the season and I spent the last few weeks trimming plants and bushes for the winter, cleaning around the house and getting ready to head south again.
We left Canada last week and traveled to IN with a quick stop in Niagara Falls. Even if I have seen the falls before, It's always nice to go back, I still find them majestic and impressive.

With all the "to-dos" lately...I didn't have much time left for sewing. Nevertheless, here and there, I managed to complete this small quilt top. Made entirely from scraps from the last two quilts I made. It's a Quarter Log Cabin and the blocks are set on point, a good scrap buster.

Inspired by Jenna's beautiful Arizona Quilt at jenna brand,
Click here to see her quilt and tutorial.

These blocks are easy to make and make such a strong statement when arranging on point.

These were fun to make and quite liberating...the only rule was to get as much as I can from those scraps.

Since it's a small quilt (38 x 38 in.) I am thinking to quilt this one on my sewing machine.
I am thinking straight lines across the blocks.

Can't wait to work on something that isn't pink...
